When Dwight Dickinson and Donald Hussman established Dickinson Hussman Architects, their goals and aspirations had been formed through years of experience working together prior to the formation of the firm. Sharing strong beliefs on what constitutes good design and client service, the two founding principals grew their business on the premise that its architecture would make a difference for those who lived and learned within it.
As their practice grew, so did their dream. The knowledge and understanding the two founders had of sound educational principles was transformed into DHA's educational facilities. Trendy architectural solutions that had permeated the profession were avoided and only solid concepts were developed. The commonality of strong design elements and innovative solutions came to the forefront. Importance of space, volume, and light was understood and applied in order to support the learning process in all of Dickinson Hussman's institutions.
Because DHA understands the tangible components of educational architecture, it is natural for the firm to provide services in other related areas. Assistance such as bond issue support, site zoning and site analysis/selection for public and private schools, colleges and universities have become specialties of the firm.
